Who do I talk to and what do I say?
Everybody who is in network marketing, building a business online, says they want to be successful, right? But they aren’t! It isn’t really that difficult or challenging!
People PROCRASTINATE and just don’t DO what they SHOULD be doing. They will clean their desk, shuffle papers around, watch T.V. or even take a nap – everything BUT work on their business building activities. Perhaps you are putting off picking up the phone, creating a video, or writing your blog and posting it everywhere.
Why is that? If you can understand why you procrastinate, then you can do something about it.
There are 2 Primary Reasons why people put off what they should be doing:
1. Low Self-Confidence relative to the task at hand
For example, if I was told I had to build a house… and they gave me all the supplies I would need: the wood, nails, hammer, measuring device, the levelers, all the tools and even the blueprints. and they said, “Go Do It!” . . .
My first reaction is one of being STUNNED! Like a deer in the headlights! My mind starts producing a dizzying list of reasons why I CAN’T DO THAT!! I’ve never been trained on framing a house, laying a foundation, measuring it all out. I wouldn’t even know where to begin! I would put it off indefinitely! I have ZERO confidence related to building a house!
Now apply that in network marketing. People who join start with ZERO confidence in building a business. As soon as they sign up, they will be thinking, “I don’t know HOW to do it!” So if they don’t know how to do it, that becomes their excuse for procrastination and not DOING anything!
However, in network marketing, there are so many resources, You Can Learn How To Do It!
To build a house, I could go get classes on it, find a mentor and watch what they do and become an apprentice under them and over a period of TIME, I would be able to ACQUIRE the SKILLS I need so that I DO HAVE CONFIDENCE related to the task at hand.
The SAME is true in network marketing.
What is the #1 single most important activity in Network Marketing that makes you the money?
If you said Prospecting, you’re right. If you don’t have a stead flow of people to talk with, you’re out of business! I used to own an Indian Jewelry/Gift store and if no customers came in to shop and buy, we wouldn’t make any sales at all! The same is true in your business! You have to have a constant flow of prospects and buyers. To do that, you need to expose what you do, your products, your services and your business to people.
Are you afraid to talk on the phone?
Do you say, I love the industry, I get it, I see how it works and how it can produce a huge paycheck… much more than I could EVER make at a dead-end job… but …
Who do I talk to and what do I say?
When you (1.) identify your prospect and (2.) show them what to DO with these people, then the “I don’t know what to do” goes away!
2. The number 2 reason people procrastinate is: They associate PAIN with the activity.
They say, “I don’t even LIKE doing this..” There is a PERCEIVED PAIN associated with the activity. Let’s face it, if you don’t LIKE doing something, you’re not going to do it… or at least, not for very long.
If you don’t like talking with prospects and perceive it as a grind and painful – not fun – and don’t associate pleasure with it, you’ll avoid it.
So what’s the solution?
I learned to make it a GAME, make it FUN to do! Have a BLAST with it and giggle my way through the day. Put the PLEASURE back into prospecting. You need to ERASE the feelings of drudgery and REPLACE them it a NEW feeling of pleasure.
Simply stated: Put the PLEASURE back into Prospecting!
How do we do THAT?
Think a
bout what you like to do a lot, what you LOVE to do. You’ll get up early, stay up late and forego sleep because you love to do this so much!
Here is the KEY: Associate PLEASURE with your business and Prospecting. Your business should be FUN.
The reason it isn’t fun, is that you don’t have self-confidence and don’t know exactly what you should be doing. This makes you feel very uncomfortable and unsure of yourself. That’s never fun!
On the other hand, if you HAVE Self-Confidence and you LOVE what you’re doing, you’re going to spring out of bed and be totally EXCITED! Fighting off distractions will be gone. You’re doing what you LOVE!
Understanding the CORE, the roots of where that feeling comes from is very important, not only for YOU, but also for your team members. It stems from (a) low self-confidence or (b) they don’t like doing it or have a perceived pain associated with it.
Alright, now let’s talk about
Who Do I Talk To and What Do I Say?
Picture yourself at the very first training for your company and they hand you a script.
Now they have you practice it for 2 1/2 hours, role playing with each other. This can impact your life – It can be one of those ‘life-changing moments’ for you.
Now it’s up to YOU to USE it. This is another one of those GOLDEN NUGGETS that can completely change the course of your business and your financial future.
Soak up the information – LEARN it – and then APPLY it.
Try it! If it doesn’t work, don’t quit right away. You have to have TENACITY and persistence UNTIL…
“Fail forward!” Make all kinds of mistakes as you practice and get better with each phone call. Make mistakes and continue to do it… until you MASTER it. This one skill alone can make you a millionaire. 🙂
If you don’t know what to say, you will procrastinate, put it off indefinitely and never get what you want.
The problem is low self-confidence, self esteem… being unsure of yourself. The only way to overcome that is to practice and get good at it. Your small victories will build and you will see results. Results gives you more self-confidence and makes you stronger.
Your self-confidence is felt by the other person, and you begin LEADING them, guiding them to the answers they are looking for. As more and more people start following you, it becomes more FUN and your life starts changing..
