These words, attributed to a first-century Roman philosopher, point to the truism that for life to have direction, goals are essential.

Right Motives Are Essential

May our motives be pure as we set and pursue our goals.

Strong Desire Is A Must

For our goals to become a reality, we must have a strong desire to achieve them. What will help us develop such an intense desire? Our desire to accomplish what we set out to do can be cultivated by meditating on the results and benefits of achieving the goal. Never stop thinking about the possibility, and continue to reach out for it. Our association with others who have already reached a certain goal can also create in us a desire to attain it. This will enforce our beliefs that we CAN reach it, we are able to attain it.

BELIEFS

Belief in yourself, that you ARE able to achieve your goals, is imperative.

Where do you get this strong belief?
What would cause you to truly believe that you can get what you want?

Napoleon Hill said,
“Most failures are due to LIMITATIONS we set up in our own MIND.
If we have the COURAGE to go one step further, we’d discover our error.”
 

Erase Limiting Beliefs

No one in HISTORY ever ran a mile in less than 4 minutes. . .
until Roger Bannister did it!
He practiced doing it over and over in his head until the result became CERTAIN.
He believed he could do it and then DID it!
After he ran the 4 Minute Mile, within 2 years, 37 other people DID IT!
It’s Human Nature. When we see someone else or many people who are able to do something,
our mind HAS TO believe it’s possible.

It’s proven!

We say to ourselves, “If they can do it, why can’t I?”

We have a MIND Shift!
IMPOSSIBLE now becomes POSSIBLE.
We have Belief, Conviction, Certainty!

Anthony Robbins said,
“If you want to be successful, find someone who has already
achieved what you want and follow what they do.”

CLARITY OF PURPOSE

Committing Our Goals to Writing Can Help

An abstract idea takes on clarity and form when we choose words to express it. When those words are written down, they make a deep impression on the mind and heart. We may therefore wish to commit our goals and the strategy for reaching them to paper. That being said, let me share a short story with you.

Years ago I wrote down my list of what I wanted to accomplish and have materially. . . time went by and we moved several times. While packing everything up, I came across this list and to my surprise and amazement, I achieved and had everything on that list!

So I believe we are driven FROM WITHIN. That’s more important than writing anything down. But if it helps you to focus and figure out what you want… by all means, do it!

A DEFINITE PLAN OF ACTION

Set Short-Term Goals as Markers

Some goals may initially appear formidable. We may do well to break down our long-term goals into a few short-term goals. The intermediate goals can serve as reachable markers along the way to attaining a long-term goal. Regularly measuring our progress with respect to such road markers can help us to keep our mind focused.

Determination and Persistence Needed

Despite our having well-laid plans and a strong desire to carry them out, some goals remain unattainable. In our pursuit of our goals, we too may experience setbacks. Rather than giving up, we must review, re-evaluate, and readjust. When obstacles arise, we need to stretch forward with determination and persistence.
