How to Break the Ice and Build Rapport

How to Break the Ice and Build Rapport

You can build rapport with anyone in a matter of minutes just by asking a few simple questions. Start with the phrase “I’m just curious…”

When you ask a question, be sure to tell them a little about yourself first. Like the game of hot potato. For example, “I live outside of Chicago in Illinois, where I was born and raised. Where are you from originally?”

Remember, the person who asks the Questions controls the conversation.

Here are some questions to get you started:

1.)    Where are you from originally?

2.)    (If not from here)  What brought you here? (If from here) Have you lived here all your life?

3.)    Do you have a family?

4.)    What do you do?

5.)    What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Take notes of their answers.  You can start connecting with anyone within minutes.   This will help tremendously in building relationships and in building your business.

Here’s a short video that will give you a QUICK VISUAL to remember how to break the ice and build rapport:

The secret to being able to easily break the ice and build rapport

The secret to being able to easily break the ice and build rapport with anyone is understanding what a person VALUES. Once you understand what a person values, what they want, you will be able to influence them and offer them solutions to get what they want!

You’d be surprised how much people are willing to open up when you talk to their values (home, family/friends, etc.). You can ask about future plans once you have established rapport. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a best friend, strangers feel a 7-8 relationship with you . . . in just a few minutes

“People don’t care about you until they know how much YOU CARE about THEM.” Take an INTEREST in people, find out what they’re all about, get to KNOW them and WHAT THEY NEED FIRST and THEN offer them a solution to a problem they raise.

This is all part of persuasion and influence marketing. It’s an ART that needs to be carefully developed. It’s a powerful skill that, once mastered, can bring you an amazing lifestyle – and help you to help others to go after and get what they want in life.

Do not confuse this method of communication with Manipulation!

There is a HUGE difference between MANIPULATION and CARING about a person, looking out for their BEST interests. You simply want to get to know a bit about them, what they want, what they value, so that you can guide them and help them if what you have would be the solution they need.

Your MOTIVE is very important, even CRUCIAL. If you have MONEY-Making in the back of your mind or some other agenda, they will sense it. You MUST first get into the RIGHT MINDSET – one of making friends, building a relationship with NO thought of benefiting from them… but instead, your MOTIVE should be to help them if you can. You have to come from a place of helping others.

My goal, for example, is to impact people on the deepest level possible to help them change their lives.

The whole tone of the conversation will be different. You will be confident and feel GOOD about talking with others. If this is done correctly they won’t feel like you’re prying into their life; instead, they will feel that you REALLY CARE and are interested in THEM. That’s when the friendship begins.

Once you master the Art of Communication, learn how to break the ice and build rapport, you will have more productive conversations,  your business will become more FUN and you’ll have the ABILITY to help more and more people.

Communicate – Communicate – Communicate!
