Embrace Change | Change is good!

Embrace change

Part 1

I enjoyed this true life illustration so much, that emphasizes why we need to embrace change, I just wanted to share it with you.

In the late 1800’s the ice industry was thriving, particularly in the Northeast. Companies would cut blocks of ice from frozen lakes and ponds and sell them around the world. The largest single shipment was 200 tons that was shipped to India. During the trip to India,100 tons melted, but the remaining 100 tons was still enough to make a profit.

These ice harvesters, however, were ultimately put out of business by forward thinking companies who invented mechanical ice-makers. It no longer made sense to cut and ship ice because companies could now make ice in any city during any season. Ice-makers in turn were eventually put out of business by forward thinking and the invention of the refrigerator.

You would think that the original ice harvesters would have embraced changed and adopted the new and expanding technology. However, all they did was maintain the status quo: their focus was on better saws, better storage, and better transportation. Eventually, because they didn’t embrace change,  they went out of business.

Think, too, about any market and the changes it experiences as newer developments make their way into the industry… Horse and buggy was great until Ford came along with an engine… and automobiles were born! Plastic records were obsolete when they were replaced by cassettes, CD’s, and iPods!

AND especially is this true in the technology field! If we don’t keep up with technology, and embrace change, we will be left in the dust, just as those were. Something new is always just around the corner. Often, I have held back from buying something because they were announcing the next generation coming soon!

Another good example of this is facebook! Just when you think you understand it and start using it, or adding the newest feature, they change it again!  But remember, change is GOOD! Embrace change! Continue learning, growing and moving forward.

Growth, prosperity and personal success are the result of challenging the unknown and embracing change. If we don’t, just like the ice harvesters, we will go out of business!

************
Many of you know that I have been in this industry for over 35 years and I’ve met some of the most amazing people and leaders along the way. These experiences have provided me with firsthand knowledge as to what it takes to build a thriving Internet Marketing business.

Like the old ice harvesters, I have come from a time before advanced computers, high-tech practices and global communication systems. If I had stayed fixated on what “worked in the day” or “what was most comfortable,” I never would have had my eyes opened to Internet Marketing. The world is now at our fingertips – literally!

So as we move into a new year, let’s explore the unknown and embrace change together.

This is the first in a series so watch for the next one on How to Embrace Change entitled: “The 6 Steps to Mastering Change”
