#11 ~ How to Build a Home Business ~Activity or Accomplishment?

Activity or Accomplishment?

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule,
but to schedule your priorities.” -Stephen Covey

Since this is the start of another New year, I thought it is appropriate to write about getting organized, prioritizing to accomplish our goals for the day, week, month and year.

** It’s easy to confuse activity with accomplishment! **

They first key is to figure out WHAT activities will bring us closer to our goals. (I will cover that at another time.) Once that is done, setting our priorities will be much easier.

The Jar of Rocks and Sand:
I love this illustration. Take a jar, some sand (enough to fill the jar almost to the brim) and some large rocks.

Now fill the jar almost to the brim with sand and then add the rocks. The sand compacts down, solidly, leaving room for only some of the rocks, and some rocks don’t fit!

Let’s try this again. This time, take out the sand. Put all of the rocks in first. Now fill the sand in… as the sand trickles in around the nooks and crannies, you will find that everything fits inside the jar!

So if our important activities are the large rocks, we want to tackle them first, and let the smaller, less important activities fill in around the cracks. You will find that your life will run a lot smoother when you take care of the more important things first.

MaryKay Ash (founder of MaryKay Cosmetics) says that you should make a “to do” list every evening before going to bed so that you will be focused on what you need to accomplish the next day and can get started immediately upon rising!

An added benefit is, you’ll sleep better and your sub-conscious mind will get to work on finding solutions, bringing you that much closer to your desired outcome.

The picture above is a Planner Pad. This is what I’ve been using for years because it has an effective way to get organized. Categorize, Prioritize and then Schedule. I never miss a beat using this planner. No affiliate.. just go here to get yours!  http://plannerpads.com

Here’s a trick to avoid procrastination:

Eat Your Frog –
Meaning,  do the hardest thing on your list, the one that keeps blocking your production and get it out of the way.
Brian Tracy says if you “eat your frog” first thing in the morning, you will feel more productive and operate with a clearer conscience for the rest of the day.

One of my all-time favorite books, is The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson.

This, I believe, is one of the most important KEYS for an entrepreneur to learn:
“Consistent, daily actions compound over time, bringing you the desired results.”

Franklin and Stephen Covey
are known for their time management planners, trainings and books on how to get more accomplished, living at our peak performance. I always use my planner so nothing falls through the cracks and everything gets taken care of or moved to the next day.

Don’t forget to schedule some down time for relaxing, taking breaks and re-charging! And get plenty of sleep! That will cut down on the stress, leaving you more relaxed and ready to conquer the day!

One last thought:
Create a chart with your Income-Producing  Activities listed. When you get each one done, check it off. Keep going until they are ALL accomplished!

Remember:
“Consistent, PROPER Daily Actions Compound Over Time Bringing You The Desired Results.”

So now, the question is:
What are the PROPER Daily Actions we need to take in order to get the results we want?
